Are You Ready for Metaverse?
Facebook dropped a bombshell last week by rebranding Facebook to Meta, with a mission to increase the GDP of metaverse (sounds familiar, Collison brothers?). Meta’s take on metaverse is “a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences using technologies like virtual and augmented reality”.
Whether this is a tactic for Facebook to distract the public from the recent data privacy scandal or a genius action of doing good to the society, we are not here to judge. However, having more tech giants competing in the building of Metaverse ultimately is a good thing (so we won’t end up having “Appleverse” as an example). What we should really care about is the underlying trends in Web 3.0, NFTs and Metaverse, which are all hinting at a different technological landscape that is drastically different from today, a centralized platform based universe. What we are going to see are decentralized, community-governed networks that can extract far greater value than those advanced centralized networks.
So, are you ready for METAVERSE?
SEGA! Moves into X-Box
90s Gaming Giant SEGA! breaks inks a partnership with Microsoft’s Gaming Segments - which owns X-Box and Bethesda Studios - to launch cloud gaming initiatives, as well as plans for an online super game.
The key focuses for Super Game are 'global', 'online', 'community' and 'IP utilisation', Sega said. In any case, this is in-line with the slew of partnerships across the video game space recently.
Move Like Jagger
Boston Dynamic’s Spot learns a new trick: Dancing Like Mick Jagger, giving even the likes of Adam Levine a run for his money.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Spot strutting its stuff. Boston Dynamics has shared several videos in recent years showing its dog-like robot pulling moves to different tracks that include Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk featuring Bruno Mars, and IONIQ: I’m On It by K-pop sensation BTS.
Boston Dynamics has been marketing Spot as a robotic solution for a range of industries, with the quadruped’s API and payload interfaces allowing it to be configured for different tasks that include industrial inspection and mapping. Spot is a leading figure in advanced robotics and, while there’s been some scare, the dancing moves and neat tricks have implied Spot isn’t some robot overlord. Though you would lose to Spot on the dance floor.
